Davis Applauds House Approval of Equal Military and Civilian Pay Raises
All Federal Employees Set For 2.7 Percent Raise

June 14, 2006

Washington, D.C. Congressman Tom Davis (R-VA-11th) is pleased to announce House approval of a 2.7 percent pay raise for all federal military and civilian employees.

The pay raise is included in H.R. 5576, the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations for Fiscal Year 2007, which passed the House today by a vote of 406-22.

The vote continues the two-decade tradition of granting parity in the pay raises for military and civilian employees. At 2.7 percent, the pay raise is higher than the 2.2 percent proposed in the President's budget proposal. Davis and the Members of the Washington-area delegation worked together to achieve the 2.7 percent across-the-board increase.

"Both our federal civilian and military employees fight on the front lines for our freedom, seek cures for diseases, respond to our natural disasters, protect the borders of our country, and provide needed government services to the American people." Davis said. "This is an appropriate pay increase for our valuable federal employees, and will help keep the public sector a real workforce competitor with the private and non-profit sectors."

"I want to thank the Members of the local delegation, specifically Congressmen Frank Wolf, Jim Moran, and Steny Hoyer, for their work on this issue," Davis said. "And I want to thank the Appropriations Committee for once again recognizing the important principle of pay parity."
