Davis and Norton Disappointed as D.C. Vote Falls Short
We got it farther than anyone anticipated, Congressman says

December 07, 2006

WASHINGTON, D.C. Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., and Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., said they were "obviously disappointed" that Republican leaders declined to take a bill to the floor that would've granted the District of Columbia and Utah seats in the House of Representatives.

"It's tough to take after we, along with D.C. residents, had created so much momentum for this bipartisan bill," Davis and Norton said. "We got it farther than anyone anticipated. We're disappointed not for ourselves but for residents of the District and Utah and all those who joined this fight for justice over the past four years. We recognize that this decision may be final, but we will continue to seek passage until Congress completes its business and adjourns this week.

Davis and Norton said they will re-introduce the bill "as our first order of business in the 110th Congress. And we remain convinced that doing the right thing for D.C. remains well within our grasp."
