Area high-school students and their families are invited to attend Paying for College, a free workshop on planning and paying for college, Saturday, January 13 at 9 a.m. at James Madison High School and at 11 a.m. at Brentsville High School. One high school student at each workshop will win a $1,000 scholarship toward the cost of a higher education.

Paying for College will provide students and their families information to help them with one of the biggest hurdles facing college-bound students: planning and paying for the college of their choice. U. S. Rep. Tom Davis is scheduled to appear at the event presented by The Sallie Mae Fund, in partnership with the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

Students and their families will learn about the benefits of continuing an education beyond high school, the affordability of college due to various types of financial aid available (i.e., grants, scholarships, and loans), and resources available to help families prepare for the college admissions and financial aid process.

Individuals interested in attending should RSVP by calling (toll-free) 877-840-8224. Seating is limited.
